The Gravity Series is an ongoing collection of paintings in the style of Abstract Expressionism, which I have recently become taken with. It will be shown in the WSD exhibition in May, 2012.
Each time I start one of these paintings, I never know what I am going to come up with- I just begin with the plan to somehow cover and re-adapt the surface. Each one is painted on one of two large canvases, directly over the painting before it, meaning that each one only ever lasts for a matter of days- sometimes only hours. This is sometimes rather tragic, but it has allowed me to better-understand the importance of the art process in itself.
I wanted to play with the themes of letting go, rebirth, adaptation, and texture, and was also greatly inspired by planetary movement, phases of the moon, and the phenomenon of gravity.
